Back in the saddle again…

May 12, 2011

Actually, in the few days I’ve been back at the ranch, I haven’t logged any saddle time.

Hasn’t kept the smile off my face though.

All sorts of things have been afoot since my last post, and since I’m dog tired from raking all day, I’ll just touch on the major things…

I’M DONE WITH PAPERS! For the summer. 45 pages, at least a dozen hand cramps, two weeks of no sleep, and countless cups of coffee later, I’m finished with school for the semester. Nary a “modernism” or a “Stein” or a “mythologies” will pass these lips for the next few months.

I found an awesome place to live next year. Horse property, chicken coop, big yellow farm house, massive wood deck.

Went home for a few days to see my family. An awesome and way too infrequent occurrence. I also found an old family trunk full of vintage 50’s housedresses. I clearly acquired someone’s genetics because these dresses fit like a glove. Expect pictures.

And most importantly, I’m back at the ranch. I haven’t stopped smiling. I’m giddy with the mountain air. I’m home again. There really are no words. It’s a sublime homecoming. I’m relishing the ache in my arms from six hours of raking, the paint splattered jeans from re-doing the rabbit hutch, the sunburned lips as a testament to a day spent outside, the gash on my knuckle from working too vigorously, the muddy boots from trekking through high country in May, the second helpings of lunch because my body requires the calories, and the utter peace in my head as I hit the hay for the night. There’s nothing more rewarding than a hard day worked and a night’s rest well earned. I’m back I’m back I’m back.

You seem so happy at this place. You should make sure to be there, or at a place like it, for the rest of your life 🙂
