RIP Cowboy (2008-2011)

February 7, 2011

Sad news this morning.

After 2.5 years on this earth, little Cowboy was found nestled peacefully in his sock fortress.

Cowboy’s been my little companion since September 2008, when a friend and I bought him in Missouri to be our roadtrip buddy. He amused us during our travels and has made his furry little way from the Missouri to North Carolina to California to Colorado. This little hamster has more travel time under his belt than a lot of people. He’s been with me during tough winters, moves to new cities, and a bunch of happy times. Indeed, he’s been the cause of many of those happy times. Silly to say this about a hamster, but he’s been one of the primary constants in these tumultuous past few years. He’s been the  mascot for many a beer pong game, left little caches of sunflower seeds in the corners of many a room, and has delighted many with his curious tufts of hair. He was the coolest hamster I owned. He never bit and was always happy to be handled. I would let him have free run of the room while I did my homework and he never crawled into one of those weird hidden places that hamsters are prone to do. I like to think he led a full and rewarding hamster life.

Even though he’s just a little hamster, he’ll definitely be missed.

I won’t lie, I’m getting a little misty as I write this. He had a good long life for a hamster though, and I’m very happy that I found him curled up in his little bed. It’s nice to have the indication that he just went in his sleep.

Sounds like he had a nice long happy hamster life and a peaceful death and that he gave you joyous memories! Goodbye, little hamster!

Aw, so sorry to hear about Cowboy. Sounds like he really did have a happy hamster life though. Doesn’t seem silly to get misty about it to me at all.

Cowboy is beautiful. I’m glad you had his love and companionship. And I’m sorry you lost him. 😦
