Baked Apple recipe….without a real recipe

April 18, 2009

Baked apples are so. freaking. good.
They’re sweet and custardy and a little tart and a little crunchy and mmmmmmm.
I just made one and am happily full of baked apple delicious goodness.
And its such a great way to use up that lone, kinda mealy, kinda bruised apple.

1) Core the apple (I use granny smith) making sure not to cut through to the bottom
2) Stuff apple with some mixtured of the following: brown sugar, nuts, dried fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg. I usually just stuff with brown sugar, chopped walnuts, and dust with cinnamon. Top with a pat of butter (1tbsp?)
3)Put in ramekin, oven safe bowl, shallow baking dish, whatevs.
4) Pour some boiling water around the apple (I think I used 1/4c in a ramekin)
5)Add enough vanilla extract to the boiling water to smell yummy
6) Bake in 385* oven until mushy but not collapsed.
7) Top with whipped cream and ladle the vanilly buttery cinnamony leftover liquid on top.
